Radiography Program
Breanna received her Associate's Degree in Science at Nassau Community College, which is where she discovered she wanted to go further into the medical field. She spent time in her undergrad truly uncertain where her path would lead, but only knew she wanted to help people. Eventually, she landed on the perfect path for herself which led her to CAHE. She picked radiography for how much she enjoyed learning about the internal workings of the body. Working in the medical field to Breanna means making people comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Breanna finds joy in making the patients smile.
CAHE: What did you enjoy most in the program?
Breanna : What I enjoy the most about the radiography program would be the clinical portion. Being hands on in your career choice is truly what made me LOVE what I am doing, and know I am in the right place. It is true that when you love what you do it never feels like work.
CAHE: In your experience, is there a patient, situation, or story that stands out in your mind?
Breanna : Many times during your clinical portion of the program you will be involved in patient transfers.. Meaning you transfer your patient from a stretcher to the Xray table. One patient in particular stood out most to me. They were in a lot of pain, and any movements hurt them significantly. They had fractured the neck of their Femur bone, and also fractured their Sacrum. This patient in particular would only let us transfer them to the X-ray table if I held their hand. After the exam was complete, and we transferred the patient back to the stretcher the patient looked me in my eyes, and thanked me countless times for how kind, and patient I was with them. It’s the moments that make you feel the most joy in what you’re doing.
CAHE: What is the greatest lesson that you learned in the program?
Breanna : The greatest lesson I have learned in this program so far would be time management. This program moves fast, and is a challenging program. I am currently in my 3rd quarter going into the 4th quarter in just two more weeks. Without leaning proper time management I would not be as successful in this program.
CAHE: What advice would you offer to a student who is just beginning the program?
Breanna : The only advice I would give is the same advice my program director Ron told me.. “Study to understand, not to memorize.” Starting this program I had to change my study techniques significantly to succeed. Ron at the time was not the program director, but was my instructor for many classes, and lab. Those few words stuck with me the most, and to this day guide me through this program
CAHE: Why did you choose to attend the Radiography program at the Center for Allied Health Education?
Breanna : I chose the Radiography program first, than after my interview I was immediately drawn to the school. The staff, and instructors are all amazing people who want to see you succeed.
