Radiography Program
Karryl is currently a Freshman at Center for Allied Health Education having only began her academic career in February 2021.
Karryl was born in Trinidad and migrated to the United States at the age of 16. Karryl has always loved the medical field and after graduating with an Associates in Biology, she needed time to figure out the next steps in her career. It was during this time she began working with the physically and mentally disabled populations at an agency called ADAPT Community Network (formerly known as United Cerebral Palsy of New York City). It was through her time there that she was able to discover her love for the field of Radiology.

After graduating, Karryl hopes to continue her studies and will advance in her career hoping to become specialized in CT and other fields.
CAHE: What did you enjoy most in the program?
Karryl : There are two things that I enjoyed most about this program. The first I enjoyed the opportunity to work at different clinical sites learning from so many different people what it is genuinely like to be a technologist. Meeting some patients on some of their worst days but being able to make them smile melted my heart. I loved the opportunity to work with patients, and I cannot wait to graduate and build my career in this field. The second and best part about this program are some of the students that I have met along the way. They have been an immense help in assisting me through the program. I absolutely adore them.
CAHE: In your experience, is there a patient, situation, or story that stands out in your mind?
Karryl : Throughout all my years in school, I never liked physics. I always tried my best to stay away from this class. When I noticed physics was in my schedule, I was not happy. I thought negatively right away and thought that I would fail the class and never understand it. Thankfully, I met a teacher named Yana who helped me understand physics in a way that I never thought I could. She gave me extra work if I asked for it and she went out of her way to tutor me and my entire class in between her classes. She is awesome and a true example of a teacher who wants her students to succeed in life, I will forever be thankful to her.
CAHE: What is the greatest lesson that you learned in the program?
Karryl : The greatest lesson I have learned in the program is time management. I was told this course would be intense, however nothing can prepare you fully until you are in the course and experience it yourself. I noticed how easy it can be to get off track, I learned how important it is to prioritize and stay focused. Also, I learned to never be afraid to speak up and ask questions. Settle for nothing less than your absolute best.
CAHE: What is one piece of advice that you would give to prospective students looking to enter the Radiography field?
Karryl : I would advise any prospective students looking to enter the radiology field to set high personal and academic standards for themselves, and live up to them. Listen to that little voice inside that says, “I can do this.” Believe in yourself. Realize that this program is hard work and there would be sacrifices that you will have to make.
CAHE: What is your most memorable experience in the program?
Karryl : It has not happened yet. It would be the moment I get the results that I pass my mid curriculum Exam.
CAHE: What advice would you offer to a student who is just beginning the program?
Karryl : The best advice that I can give a student who is just beginning the program is to stay strong and never give up. The first quarter especially with test your strength and resilience. Stay focus and in the end it would be worth it.
CAHE: Why did you choose to attend your program at the Center for Allied Health Education?
Karryl : I choose to attend CAHE for two reasons. The first one is because I have a friend who attended the Center for Allied Health and Education, she told me how much she liked the school. The second reason is because I researched CAHE and I saw their ratings are high both on their student graduation and job placement.
