Radiography Program
Sharon Pizarro is a junior student in the Radiography Program. She began her education at CAHE in September of 2020 and has successfully completed her first quarter. She is also obtaining her Associate's degree online. Sharon has shown dedication and enthusiasm in her academics, as well as in the clinical setting. She has been an exceptional student and is always willing to assist her classmates.
Upon completion of the program and successfully passing the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) certification exam, Sharon would like to continue her education to obtain her MRI and CT certification as well.
CAHE: What did you enjoy most in the program?
Sharon: I enjoy having the ability and opportunity to not only study in didactic courses but to also attend clinical sites. This is where you get to observe firsthand how Radiographers work in the field. It is important to have this experience and be able to witness working with patients in the healthcare setting. This truly prepares you for what you will be doing in your career as a trained radiographer.
CAHE: What is the greatest lesson that you learned in the program?
Sharon: The greatest lesson I have learned so far in the program is to time manage. You hear this over and over but it is truly important in succeeding in this program. You must be able to prioritize what needs to be done, know your limits and still have downtime. It may sound impossible but you can do it.
CAHE: What is your most memorable experience in the program?
Sharon: So far in the program, my most memorable experience was my first day at the clinic. The first x-ray I saw in person was a Fluoroscopy study, a barium enema. When I saw the live film of the barium flowing through the intestines, it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. I felt wonder and excitement about learning this field and could not wait to take my first x-ray.
CAHE: What advice would you offer to a student who is just beginning the program?
Sharon: My advice is to never give up. This program is intense and contains a lot of information which can feel overwhelming at times. With dedication and hard work, you can do it and never forget the teachers and staff are always there to help. The challenges we face in life show us our true character and who we want to be. Keep up that enthusiasm and positivity and the possibilities are endless.
CAHE: Why did you choose to attend the EMT program at the Center for Allied Health Education?
Sharon: I chose to attend the Radiography program at the Center for Allied Health Education because it was highly recommended to me by a graduate. When I looked into the program, I found Radiography very interesting and knew this would allow me to truly make a difference in someone’s life.
